He was predeceased by: his wife Alice Helen Hoffman (Niebauer); his parents, Joseph Hoffman and Marie Hoffman (Lacher); his sister Rosemarie McCarthy; and his daughter Susan.

He is survived by: his sisters, Mildred Walther and Dorothy Kleppner; his children, Joseph L. Hoffman (Frances), Donna Barraclough and Patty Williamson (Wayne); and his grandsons, James, Sean, Christopher, Patrick, Cory Barraclough, Paul and Matthew Tomasic. He is also survived by Six great-grandchildren.
