He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Stein and Faye Stein. He is survived by: his wife Jan; his children, Sam (Liz) and Jessica (Carlos); his grandchildren, Atlas and Caleb Stein; his siblings, Edward, Rachel and Harriet; and his aunt Anne Kranzler. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
