With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Lisa Benkert Auel (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on November 15, 2025. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her mother Marian Auel; and her parents-in-law, Jim and Prickett Saunders. She is survived by: her husband Thomas Saunders; her daughters, Caroline Marian Saunders and Haley Colleen Saunders; her siblings, Gretchen Meadows (Craig), Juliana Auel (Robert Whomsley), Adam Auel (Kari), John Auel (Patricia), BethAnn Romeo (John), Jim Saunders (Diana), Stephen Saunders (Maia) and Charlie Saunders (Mary); and her father Carl Auel. She is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.
