She was predeceased by: her parents, Ida Mae Jones Hicks and Ervin Hicks. She is survived by: her children, Yvonne, Margaret, Ervin (Sonny), Theamon and Lori Burley; her significant other Thomas Burley; her daughter Janis Burley; her son-in-law Erwin Campbell (Lori Burley); her grandchildren, Margaux Wilson, Liza Wilson, Maya Burley, Thomas Wilson, Karynne Bernard, Fred Bernard and Kaylen Campbell; her great grandchild Skyra Bernard; her siblings, Yvonne Hicks Davis, Ervin Hicks and Theamon Hicks; her siblings-in-law, Anita Burley, Dr. JoAnne Burley, Mary Burley, Nancy Hicks, Valerie Hicks and Robert Burley; and her cousin Sorors.

In 2001, she earned The Teacher Excellence Foundation Silver Award and the 2003 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Service Award in Education.
