It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Melanie Smith (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), who passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. She is survived by: her sister Pamela Newton; her nephews, James Newton, Eric and Jeff Amtman; her niece Lindsey Amtman; and her friend Michele Cunko.

During the presentation Melanie's name was mentioned often, highlighting her contributions to the administration's successes. The organizers hadn't located her but all in attendance remembered her with great respect and fondness. She will be remembered as a great public servant, contributor to Pittsburgh and most of all a wonderful friend and colleague..”
