Richard Jacob Smethurst Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Richard Jacob Smethurst (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), who passed away on May 4, 2024. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Richard Jacob Smethurst to pay them a last tribute.

As we bid Richard Jacob farewell, let us not mourn the absence of his physical form, but rather celebrate the essence of his spirit that lingers in the spaces between moments. For Richard Jacob is not truly gone, but merely transformed, his energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.

Together, they amassed one of the largest private collections of Noh block prints in the world, particularly those by Tsukioka Kōgyo, much of which has been donated to the University of Pittsburgh.
