We announce the death of Towanda M. Carter (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), who passed away on October 13, 2026, at the age of 88. Towanda will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Samuel Durham and Corrine Durham; her husband Guy Carter; and her daughter Arlene Mitchell. She is survived by: her son Michael Carter (Kimberly) of Pittsburgh; her son-in-law Gregory Mitchell of Pittsburgh; her grandchildren, Tashawn Nichols (Sean) of Pittsburgh, Michelle Ellis (Andre) of Jacksonville and Michael I. Carter of Pittsburgh; her great grandchildren, Nehemiah Nichols, Naomi Nichols, Christian Ellis, Audrey Ellis and Kennedy Ellis; and her great great grandchild Eliana Ellis.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jones Funeral Home (2644 Wylie Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 29th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church (271 Paulson Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206).
