He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Samuel Surman Sr. and JoAnn Florence Surman (Mast); his wife Karen; his sons, Christian Surman (Patti), Joshua Surman (Kiowa) and Seth Surman (Carla); his sister Sharon Dice; and his grandchildren, Seth David Surman Jr., Isabella Surman, Victoria Surman and Nova Surman.
