He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter J. Murphy and Gladys Rively Murphy Messick; his wife Carol Guensch Murphy; and his granddaughter Megan Campion. He is survived by: his children, Brian Murphy (Joni), Robert Murphy (Andee), Mary Ann Aprahamian (James) and Connie Campion (Roslyn). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
