He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter W. Schmell and Martha G. Schmell (Musselman); his daughter-in-law Deborah L. Schmell; his grandson Joshua Schmell; and his sister Marian M. Pfautz.
He is survived by: his spouse Shirley A. Schmell (Ott); his sons, Barry L. Schmell of Fort Wayne, IN, David A. Schmell (Melissa) of Quakertown, PA, Preston R. Schmell of Fresno, CA and Rodger K. Schmell (Diana) of Perkasie, PA; and his grandchildren, Rebekah (Simeon Paulson), Jordan (Heather Schmell), Jacob (Lauren Schmell), Ellen Schmell, LenLen Schmell, Tanya (Ben Wambold), Derek (Brittany Schmell), Timothy Schmell, Caleb (Brandy Schmell) and Kylee (Anthony King). He is also survived by his 16 great-grandchildren.
