He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Mathews (Deck) and Roy Mathews. He is survived by: his children, Kathleen M. (Jeffery Rathkey), David C. (Sherri Mathews) and Michael P. Mathews; his siblings, Ruth Mathews and Clair Mathews; his grandsons, Steven (Erin Mathews), Nicholas Mathews, Jess Plageman (Jason) and Zachary Sullivan; and his great grandchildren, Cole, Addison and Miles.
