He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Edgar and Harriet Smith (Steinbach); his wife Joanne Smith; and his siblings, Dale L. Smith and Nancy Doorman.

He is survived by: his children, Jeffrey S. Smith of Wisconsin and Tanya L. Smith of Sabinsville; and his sister Joanne Strouble of Williamsport.
