He was predeceased by : his parents, Ralph Skala and Mary Skala (Porvaznick); and his siblings, Ralph, John, Andrew, Louis Skala, Ann Chetosky, Mary Holob and Margaret Bartyczak.

He is survived by : his wife Mary Ann Skala (Marva); his sons, Robert Skala (Jennifer), Joseph Skala Jr. and Michael Skala (Mary); his grandsons, Andrew, Samuel and Grant Skala; his siblings, Pauline Ozanich and Stephen Skala; and his godchildren, Erin Kuchno, Melissa Fuller and Terri Kuehmier. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
