He was predeceased by: his parents, Nicanor Ortiz and Pauline Ortiz (Monroig); and his son Roland "Gibby" Ortiz, Sr.. He is survived by: his children, Berney Ortiz, Sr. and Edwin "Junior" Ortiz; and his grandchildren, Stephanie, Heather, Berney, Jr., Vanessa and Roland, Jr.. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren.
