He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Kerns and Catherine Martz Kerns. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Marisic Kerns; his sons, Robert G. Smith and Jonathan Smith; and his brothers, Keith (Maria) and Kirk Kerns (Cheryl). He is also survived by four grandchildren.
