He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Shaffer and Maude Milliron Shaffer; his former wife Eleanor R. Powell Shaffer; his wife Mary Young Shaffer; his son Ronald Earl Shaffer; and his siblings, Geraldine, Sally Ann, William, Harry and Samuel.
He is survived by: his children, Shirley Walker (Richard) of Russell, PA and Michelle Blum (Royce) of Ludlow, PA; his brother George Shaffer (Dorothy); his grandchildren, Heather, Joshua Walker and Jamie Blum; and his great grandchildren, Drew, Brayden, Jozilyn and Seth. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
