He was predeceased by: his parents, George Henry Smith and Gladys Merle Savage; and his siblings, Virginia Friend, Mary Lou Miller, Betty Zewinsky, Samuel George Smith, Harold DeBerry, Jack DeBerry, Stanley Ray Smith and Sarah Gladys Smith Rockwell.
He is survived by: his girlfriend Martha J. Shaw; his children, Timothy R. Bowser and Jenifer A. Swihart; his stepchildren, Brent Bowser and Mindy Michniak (Daniel Michniak); his grandson Wyatt Swihart; his siblings, Cecil Alan Smith, Paul Jones Smith, Ella Mae McCourt (Mike McCourt) and Dora Victoria Brownfield (Robert Brownfield); his niece Gladys Merle Hlatky (John Hlatky); and his caregiver Rachel A. Fordyce. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, August 27th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, August 28th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home (134 W Church St, Fairchance, PA 15436). A funeral service was held on Friday, August 28th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
