He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Franklin and Martha "Jean" McCullough Ghrist; his wife Carol Ann Bennett; and his stepfather William Lunebring. He is survived by: his children, Robert W. Ghrist, Jr. (Dorinda) of Canonsburg, Kim A. Pierson (Paul) of Washington and Traci I. Hoffman (John) of Washington; his sister Ann Union of Texas; his grandchildren, Joshua P. (Kimberly), Christopher M. Pierson, McKenna M., Madison V. Hoffman, Melissa J. Bails-Ghrist (Anthony) and Brianna N. Ghrist; and his great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Kaitlynn Pierson and Brynlee Davis. He is also survived by three nephews.
