William J. Chambers Obituary

William "Bill" Joseph Chambers, 65, of Wellsville, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Wellsville Manor following a lengthy illness. He was born May 6, 1960, in Wellsville, the son of James and Etta (Young) Chambers.

While Bill briefly lived in Washington state, he resided in Allegany County for the majority of his life. He spent many years working in the bakery of Giant Food Mart in Wellsville; making salt rising bread starters and decorating cakes. He found his second career at Alfred State College as a custodian until his retirement. Bill had a love of fast cars and chevy trucks. He would often frequent McDonald's drive-thru for his morning or afternoon coffee. Family and friends were always very important to him, and he had several closer friends that he considered family. He often could be heard saying "We're family, we gotta stick together".

Bill is survived by: a daughter, Laura Snyder of Angelica; sisters, Marlene (Jim) Burdick of Wellsville, who were his excellent caregivers and support in the last years, Maria (Dale) Gaylord of Andover and Becky Chambers of Wellsville; a brother, Francis "Jake" Chambers of Allentown; nieces, Holly (Bo) McCoy, Nina (Nate) Powley, Crystal (Brock) Stevens, Michelle Burdick, Nicole Small, Kerri Chambers, Mollie Chambers, and Megan Chambers; nephews, Dustin (Amanda) Morris and Joseph Small; as well as several cousins, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by: his parents, a sister, Melanie "Sam" Burdick, and a nephew, Shaun Chambers.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Yorks Corners Cemetery. Please consider memorial donations to Allegany County Cancer Services, PO Box 534, Wellsville, NY 14895. Arrangements are under the direction of Olney-Foust Funeral Homes and Cremation & J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home of Wellsville.
