Joyce Elaine McHugh, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, at the age of 85 in Yardley, Pennsylvania. Born on April 30, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joyce spent her formative years immersed in the warmth of family and community.
For many years, Joyce called Langhorne, Pennsylvania, home, before embarking on a new chapter in her life by moving to Holland 27 years ago. Her journey was marked by rich experiences and deep connections, all of which she nurtured with grace and love.
An inspiration to many, Joyce was passionate about her faith, often participating in various prayer groups that brought her joy and fellowship over the years. She possessed a remarkable talent for quilting and cross-stitching, crafting beautiful pieces that adorned her home and were cherished gifts to family and friends alike. Joyce was not only skilled with her hands but also had a keen eye for capturing life's moments, thriving in capturing her family and experiences over many decades in slides and photography. Her love of cooking and baking brought comfort to those around her, as she shared her culinary creations with warmth and affection. An avid reader, Joyce found solace and adventure within the pages of countless books, expanding her horizons and enriching her mind.
Joyce leaves behind her beloved son, Edward McHugh, and daughter, Sharon L. Centofanti, who will forever carry her legacy in their hearts. She was also a proud sister to Karin Hogeland, and a treasured grandmother to ten grandchildren: Bridget, Jennifer, Bryan, Elise, Eddie, Haley, Blaze, Dane, Declan, and Collin. Her love extended further to fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her deeply.
Joyce's absence will be felt profoundly by her family and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert J. McHugh, her father, Edward Clyde Elder, her mother, Anna Louise Peterson Elder, and her son, Karl McHugh. Their memories will forever live on in the joyful stories and shared moments of laughter Joyce so generously imparted throughout her life.
As we remember Joyce Elaine McHugh, we celebrate a life rich in love, creativity, and faith—a life that touched many and will continue to inspire all who knew her.
