He was predeceased by: his father Earl Cleo West; and his stepfather Donald C. Brown. He is survived by: his mother Nancy Groft Brown; his children, Leah West (Tyrone Simmons) and Brett West; his grandchildren, Paisley West, Kaiden Simmons and Nevaeh Simmons; and his siblings, Cindy McMaster, Sandra Meckley (Thad), Robert West (Julie) and John West (Mindy).
