Mary E. (Meehen) Courtois Obituary
Mary E. (Meehen) Courtois, 81, of Coventry passed away at home on Monday, February 5, 2024 with family by her side. She was the loving wife of Leo M. Courtois for 53 memorable years. She was born on February 3, 1943 in Pawtucket, RI to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Pecorini) Meehen.
Mary's journey began in Providence, Rhode Island, where she pursued her passion for nursing, earning her degree from Rhode Island Hospital. Throughout her career, she made a significant impact on the lives of many through her dedicated service at Rhode Island Hospital and Pawtucket Memorial Hospital. Her compassion, kindness, and skill as a nurse were evident in the countless lives she touched.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mary's caring nature extended to the littlest members of our community. With a heart full of love for children, she embarked on a fulfilling path by opening and operating her own home daycare for over a decade. Mary's warmth and nurturing spirit created a safe and loving environment for countless children, leaving a lasting legacy of care and support.
Mary was a proud former member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Post 306, where she contributed her time and energy to support veterans and their families. Her commitment to community service reflected her deep-rooted values and sense of duty.
Raised with strong convictions in family and faith, Mary was a pillar of strength for her two children. She was a devoted mother who provided unwavering support in all their endeavors, fostering an environment of love and encouragement. However, Mary found her greatest joy in the roles of grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mary's love will live on in her husband Leo Courtois of Coventry, her son Jason Courtois and his girlfriend Theresa of Whitinsville, MA, her daughter Heather Williams of Cranston and her husband Marc; three grandchildren, Alexandra Williams, Nicholas Williams and Aurora Courtois; a great-granddaughter Harper Caton and two siblings Joseph Meehen and Janice Meehen.
A Catholic Prayer Service will take place at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 E. Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Friday, February 9 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a burial at Notre Dame Cemetery in Pawtucket. Calling hours will be on Thursday, February 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
