He was predeceased by: his parents, Chai Kee and Chong Kan; and his sibling Chai Ngiau. He is survived by: his wife Lolita Chai (Acompanado); his children, Alvin Chai, Ryan Chai and Jennilou Grace; his grandchildren, Layla Chai, Lucas Chai, Violet Chai, Ava Buckley Chai, Esmei Grace, Louisa Grace and Briar Grace; and his siblings, Chai Jet Yin, Chai Chok Yin, Chai Mei Yin, Chai Lan Yin, Chai Choon, Chai Chok Chiew, Chai Siew Yin and Chai Chok Leong.

Due to COVID restrictions his funeral is private and calling hours are omitted.
