With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of John J. Gates of Cranston, Rhode Island, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on March 21, 2026 at the age of 96. As we bid John farewell, let us not mourn the absence of his physical form, but rather celebrate the essence of his spirit that lingers in the spaces between moments. For John is not truly gone, but merely transformed, his energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. Gates and Mary Gates (Hopkins); and his sister Rita Flynn. He is survived by: his wife Elaine R. Gates (Previte); his sons, John Gates (Maryann), Robert Gates, Kenneth Gates and Michael Gates; and his nephew Gregory Flynn. He is also survived by grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
