He was predeceased by: his brother Edward Kerwin. He is survived by: his wife Deborah A. Kerwin (Irons); his sons, John W. Kerwin (Lou) and Jason M. Kerwin (Terri Walker); his grandchildren, Leah and Matthew Walker; his great grandchild Haileigh Walker; and his sisters, Catherine Calibri, Alice Mann, Sandra Strong, Doris King, Nancy Winman and Carolyn Perkins.

His funeral with Military Honors is private due to Covid restrictions.
