He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Fortes and Gladys Fortes (Rose); and his sister Monica Keenan. He is survived by: his wife Judith A. "Judy" Fortes (Crum); his children, Garry Crum (Delores), Alicia Crum, Cherish Lazarov (Atanas) and Evan Fortes (Kimberly); his grandchildren, Maliyah DeJesus, Ava Berard, Kaenan Crum and Zahra Crum; and his siblings, Anita Parsons, Daniel Fortes and Richard Fortes. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
