He was predeceased by: his parents, João "Djonzinho" Monteiro and Lia Soares Rosa; and his siblings, Joana Monteiro, Maria Barbosa and Inocência Monteiro.
He is survived by: his wife Isaura Monteiro; his children, Ana Monteiro, Belinda Braxton and John Monteiro; and his sister Ilda S. Lopes. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and one great grandson.
