He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Atherton and Martha Hirst; and his siblings, Joseph, William and Martha Ann.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Elizabeth Fowler; his sons, Eric Fowler Atherton of Norwood and Dwight Arnot Atherton of West Hartford, Connecticut; his daughter-in-law Paula Lacerda Atherton (DeCastro); and his grandsons, Ian Arnot Atherton and Dawson Fowler Atherton.
