He was predeceased by: his wife Debra Laplante (DeCoteau); and his parents, Raymond Laplante and Estella Laplante (Randle). He is survived by: his daughters, Renee Briehof (Richard Jr.), Michele Horrigan (Patrick) and Stefanie Kubbe; his grandchildren, Cameron, Cora, Miranda, Michael and Colin; and his sisters, Norma McCurdy and Marcia Rapone.
His contributions to the company and the people he worked with were significant, earning him the respect and admiration of many.
