He was predeceased by: his father Pedro Joaquin Sousa; and his sisters, Ines Teixeira, Olga Medeiros and Eliza Fernandes. He is survived by: his wife Edmea; his daughters, Edmea Sylvestre (Mark) and Eliza Sousa-Medeiros (Paul); his grandchildren, Yara and Tiago Sousa-Medeiros; his sister Odete Rebelo (Manuel) of Canada; and his caregivers, Dr. Christopher Azzoli, Dr. Amir Alizadeh, Mayumi Shoi Parker, Dr. John Laddeto and Dr. Therese Slomka. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
