He was predeceased by: his wife Louise M. Carney (Dalton); his parents, Edward J. Carney and Helen M. Carney (Almond); and his siblings, William Carney, James Carney, Gerald Carney, Helen McIntosh and Patricia Coleman.

He is survived by: his sons, John E. Carney (Kirsten) of Riverside and Robert M. Carney (Laurie) of Pawtucket; his brother John "Jack" Carney of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Ryan, Brenna, Caleb, Marissa, Diana, Alex and Cassandra; and his great grandchild Noah.
