He was predeceased by: his spouse Deolinda Z. Goncalves (Xavier); his parents, José Goncalves and Maria Goncalves (DeBarros); his child Zeferino Goncalves; and his siblings, Mariana Gomes, Emelia Monteiro and João DeBarros.
He is survived by: his children, José X. Goncalves (Shirley) of Norfolk, VA, Marie Goncalves of Rumford, Gualdino Goncalves (Luisa) of Riverside and Benilda Goncalves of New Bedford, MA; and his siblings, Rosa Santiago of Pawtucket, Isabel Fortes of Pawtucket and Henrique Cosme of Florida. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, July 14th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Perry-McStay Funeral Home (2555 Pawtucket Ave, East Providence, RI 02914). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, July 15th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (291 High St, Pawtucket, RI 02860).
