He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Kohler and Dorothy Kohler (Cullen); and his siblings, Robert Kohler, William Kohler, Jeanne Reed, Thomas Kohler, Kenneth Kohler and Roger Kohler.
He is survived by: his wife Mary D. Kohler (Couto); his children, Cheryl A. Durand and Richard J. Kohler; his grandchildren, Matthew A. Durand, Jessica M. Rooney (Daniel) and Richard J. Kohler, Jr.; his great grandchildren, Maxwell J. Rooney and Jack M. Rooney; and his siblings-in-law, Joseph P. Couto and Eileen Kohler.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 30th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Perry-McStay Funeral Home (2555 Pawtucket Ave, East Providence, RI 02914). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, September 30th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Francis Xavier Church (81 N Carpenter St, East Providence, RI 02914).
