He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth "Betty" (Auclair); his stepson David Remy (Susan); his siblings, Donald Cookson (Betty), Kenneth Cookson (Maureen), Russell Cookson (Marylou), Wayne Cookson (late Vivian), Ruth Rodrigues (late John Rodrigues) and Barbara Hardy (Charles); and his parents, Sydney Cookson and Mabel Cookson (Lang).
He is survived by: his children, Deborah Nickerson (Rudolf), Laurie Peckham (Shawn) and Richard Cookson Jr. (Suzanne); his stepchildren, Rachel E. Berube and Derrick A. Remy (Heather); his grandchildren, Amanda, Lindsey, Elizabeth, Stacie, Shawndra, Chris, Nickolas, Shane, Rebecca, Andrew, Colby, Katelyn, Josh, Zachary and Nicole; and his siblings-in-law, Paulette Barselou (late Daniel) and Atty.
