He was predeceased by: his wife Mary J. Dessaint (McDonald); his parents, John A. Dessaint and Marie A. Dessaint (LaChance); and his brother Roland. He is survived by: his children, Kathleen Ponte, Karen Kiley, Sharon De La Rosa, Carol Vicario and Robert E. Dessaint Jr.; and his siblings, Albert, George, Eugene Dessaint, Lillian Magnone, Marie Senecal and Theresa Phillips. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the RI Veterans Home Fund, 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, RI 02809.
