He was predeceased by : his parents, Judge John S. McKiernan and Elizabeth Pearl McKiernan. He is survived by : his wife Jen Maizel McKiernan; his siblings, Laura McKiernan (John Sylvia) of Warwick, John McKiernan (Vicki Gilmore) of East Greenwich and Mary McKiernan of Philadelphia; his aunt Cecile Schneider (George) of Attleboro; his nieces, Riley McKiernan, Olivia McKiernan, Kennedy Perkins and Aurora Sullivan; his mother-in-law Gail Maizel of East Greenwich; and his sister-in-law Rebecca Sullivan (Jesse) of Sandwich, MA..
