He was predeceased by: his parents, John Flanagan and Helen Flanagan (Clarke); and his siblings, John "Jack" Flanagan and Kathleen Fritsche. He is survived by: his wife Cynthia J. Flanagan (Hadfield); his sons, Russell Flanagan II (Sonja) of Johnston, Shawn Flanagan (Danielle) of Coventry and Ryan Flanagan of South Kingstown; and his grandsons, Christopher Flanagan of Union City, NJ and Nicholas Flanagan of Johnston.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Russell's memory to the Warwick Central Baptist Church would be appreciated.
