He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph McKernan, Sr. and Joyce McKernan; and his adoptive mother Shirley McKernan. He is survived by: his wife Irene McKernan (Sylvestre) of Pawcatuck; his children, Paula Boulanger (Bryan) of Ada, OH and Scott McKernan (Audrey) of Naples, FL; his grandchildren, Liam, Alden, Neilan, Maire, Nevan, Eala, Keira, Kiley and Meaghan; and his siblings, Janis McKernan-Markoff of Blackstone, MA, Jeffrey McKernan (Donna) of Concord, NC, Jay McKernan (Gail) of Groton, CT, Jody Roby of Pawcatuck, Jill LaPiana (Fred) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Michael McKernan of Pawcatuck.
