Though Nellie Mae may no longer walk beside us, her memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Nellie Mae touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In her absence, her spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Betty Jean Mackey and Harvey Norris; and her boyfriend Clarence Sloan. She is survived by: her daughter Betty Tecora Harris (Jessie Frazier); her grandchildren, Niyheem Calhoun, Caiden Allen and Ava Andrews; and her aunts and uncles, Catherine Woods, Doris Jefferson, Bobby L. Cowans and Jim Norris. She is also survived by eleven sisters; eleven brothers.
