He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Leroy Varner and Mary Jean Cathy Varner; his wife Pamela Thatch Varner; his close friend Teri Thrasher Varner; and his brothers, Fred Varner, William "Bill" Varner and Tommy Varner.
He is survived by: his daughters, Patricia Louise Varner (David) and Denise Ann Whitfield (Ricky); and his grandchildren, Emily Whitfield, Jamie Burke, Susanna House, Ashley Page and Corey Whitfield. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
