He was predeceased by : his parents, David Black and Roberta Black; his daughter Catherine Amanda Leigh; his grandson Aiden Christian Baird; his sister-in-law Camella Black; his nephew Shane Brant; and his niece Rachael Green.

He is survived by : his wife Patricia W. Black; his children, David Black (Erica) and Phoebe Davis (Mike); his siblings, Mary Brant (Gregory), Trudy Cheek (Danny), Patsy Sawyer (David), Martha Black (Andy), Franklin Black, James Black (Vivian) and Rueben Black (Sheila); his grandchildren, Zoe, Zachery, Zander, Joseph, Baylee, Talon, Hannah Baird (Andrew) and Danielle Mims; and his great grandchildren, Carleigh Mae and Freya Elizabeth.
