He was predeceased by: his parents, David Gunnells and Rebie Scoggins Gunnells; his sister Gweth Gunnells; his sister-in-law Jeannie Gunnells; his brothers, Brian Gunnells and Scotty Hartzog; and his parents-in-law, Emmet and Frankie Black.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Gunnells; his daughters, Shannon Gunnells McCormack (Jamie) and Kimberly Gunnells Sanders (Rex); his grandchildren, Allen Sanders, Danielle Sanders, Kenneth McCormack, Amber McCormack, Sadie McCormack, Kaleb McCormack and Tommy Reid; his great grandchildren, Hayes Emmerson and James Neil; his siblings, Perry K. Gunnells (Bridgitte), Timmy Hartzog (Cat), Angel Thompson and Belinda Hutchins; his sister-in-law Donna Sue Eichberg; and his stepmother Peggy Gunnells. He is also survived by friend that helped him tremendously, Oscar Verdugo and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family has asked that memorials be made to The Shriners Children Hospital, 950 West Farris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605.
