She was loved and cherished by many people including : her husband Richard C. Van Essendelft of Beaufort, SC; her parents, John Hughes and Viola Pugh Hughes; her daughters, Jill Waikel (Eric) and Jodi Packard; and her grandchildren, Christopher Pierce, Michael Pierce (Ritchelle), Noah Waikel (Karaghan), Jackson Packard, Gracie Packard, Joshua Packard and Katie Packard. She was also cherished by two daughters and many cats and dogs.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association.

She was just 6 years older than me and in some ways was like an older sister. She was always kind, soft spoken and loving.
