He is survived by: his wife Judy Ann Thompson Avants; his sons, Michael Jay Avants (Mignon Borchert) and Andrew Charles Avants; his grandchildren, Christopher Avants and Brianna Thompson; and his sisters, Euline Jackson and Pat Bishop.
