He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Clay and Evelyn Whitaker Clay; and his siblings, Gene, Gary Clay, Lula Grace Grooms and Debbie Clay McCall.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Williams Clay; his children, Nelson "Pat" Clay Jr. of McColl, Gary Clay of Bennettsville, Misty Clay Inglis (Kevin) of Bennettsville and Crystal Quick (BJ) of Bennettsville; his sister Patricia Parr (Pete) of Wallace; his grandchildren, Samantha Inglis, Dinah Inglis, Kayla Quick and Triston "Boy" Quick; and his great grandchild Araria Locklear.
