He is survived by: his son Joel Brent Wilkes of Virginia; his brothers, Pete Wilkes (Patty) of Rockingham and Tony Freeman of Rockingham; his aunts, Dianne Ratcliffe of Bennettsville, Harriet Hunt of Bennettsville, Deborah Jacobs of Bennettsville, Mamie Jean Jackson of Bennettsville and Carrie Mae Wallace of Wingate, NC; and his uncle Ricky Freeman of Bennettsville. He is also survived by several cousins, other extended family members, and a group of very special friends.
