He was predeceased by: his parents, Hazel Horton and Laverne Horton of Bethune, S. C.; his wife Sandra Kay Horton; his siblings, Sanna Carrico (David) and Carl Horton (Rhonda); and his nieces and nephews, Lauren Vargo (Matt), Dara Harrell (Wes), Carly Horton, Case Horton (Sydney) and Chloe Horton.

He is survived by: his son Russell Horton (Sheila); his stepdaughter Karen Benfield; his grandchildren, Ashley Horton, Kennedey Benfield, Kathryn DeVido and Cody Benfield; his aunts, Martha Bradley and Bem Holley; Nicolle Hope.

The family asks that donations in his memory be made to North Central High School Future Farmers of America or Timrod Baptist Church.
