He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Leopold and Margaret Alice Cornwall Laney; his wife Barbara Laney; and his daughter Suzanne Marie Laney. He is survived by: his children, Jason Laney (Sissy) of Bishopville, SC, Tammie Hopkins Rickenbacker (Robert) of Holly Hill, SC and Joel Ray Hopkins (Jil) of Holly Hill, SC; his grandchildren, Cooper, Grayson, Lanie, Ashby, Brett, Jack, Caroline and Trey; and his sister Tibby Hobson (Marshall). He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
