He was predeceased by: his parents, Fleetwood "Love" Lighty and Bertha Moses Lighty; his sons, William Bernard Lighty, Jr. and Woodrow Kenneth Lighty; and his sisters, Catherine Delaine (Harry Lee) and Linda Marie Henry (Jeff Jr.).
He is survived by: his daughter Chaplain (Fabino Michelle Pompey); his grandchildren, Brierra Tanee Lighty of Columbia, SC, William Bernard Lighty III of Columbia, SC and Ta'niya Camille Lighty of Columbia, SC; his great grandchild Amiri Zanay McGoogan of Columbia, SC; his grandson Twyzae McGoogan of Columbia; his sisters, Mattie Burris (Ulyssess) of Sumter, SC, Bertha Hunter (Vaughn) of Phoenix, AZ, Barbara Lighty of Darlington, SC and Cynthia Lighty of Hartsville, SC; his uncles, Winfred Lighty of Columbia, SC, Larry Lighty of Charleston, SC and Charles Lighty of Pinwood, SC; and his close friend Catherine Champagne (Mother Dorothy Jones). He is also survived by seventeen nieces and nephews; a host of grandnieces and grandnephews; long-time caregiver.
