He was predeceased by : his parents, Sherman Childers and Peggy Arthurs Yarbrough; and his siblings, Rodney Childers, Marion "Tricky" Black and Donnie Arthurs.

He is survived by : his wife Della Fortenberry Childers; his daughters, LaShea Brakefield (Dusty), Nikki Childers ODell (Jason), Brittany Childers (James Wilson) and Adrian Childers; his siblings, Bruce Childers, Steve Childers, Wyman Childers, Bill Childers, Chris Childers and Wynona Phillips; his grandchildren, Claire, Gabby and Thomas; and his daughter Summer Bassett.

Visitation was held on Sunday, May 5th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church (434 N Mountain St Ext, Blacksburg, SC 29702). A memorial service was held on Sunday, May 5th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
